Nancy Bergman
began her involvement with barbershop harmony in 1950 and has served as arranger,
composer, judge, coach, teacher, chorus director, quartet singer, and administrator.
Basically, Nancy does it all. She is one of the pioneers of Sweet Adelines International
and in November, 2002, was honored with the coveted “Lifetime Achievement
Award”. She has also been designated a Master Arranger—the highest
level in the organization’s arranging program.
Nancy served our organization as Executive Secretary running our International
Headquarters Office in Tulsa from 1957 to 1968. During her tenure in that position,
Sweet Adelines prospered and grew in both numbers and stature. Her influence
in every phase of our activities contributed a professional viewpoint that continues
today. Her recent appointment as a Coordinator in the International Music Arrangers
Program has already shown results in improving arranger education at the International
level.
Nancy continues her coaching and arranging activity, writing new material,
mentoring up-and-coming arrangers, conducting classes for those who are arranger-“wannabees”,
and offering advice to choruses and quartets who seek assistance in selection
of music. Her music is in great demand wherever barbershop harmony is sung—a
lasting legacy to a fine musician who loves harmony and “the old songs”
with a passion.
The Region 21
Arrangers Development Program is proud to have Nancy Bergman as faculty at our
Annual Retreat and overall advisor.
